Why in person

A weight loss clinic you can actually walk into.

Medicine Stop's weight loss service is in-person and pharmacist-led, run from our NHS pharmacy on Church Street in Alfreton. You see a GPhC-registered pharmacist and Independent Prescriber face to face, for a clinical assessment, a treatment plan where it is suitable, and follow-up care. It is a deliberate alternative to online-only apps, quizzes and postal subscriptions.

Online-only services

Apps, quizzes and the post

  • Assessed remotely through online forms

  • Support by chat or email, which can be slow
  • Medication arrives by post
  • No premises to walk into if you need help

The path forward

A real clinical journey, not a one-off prescription.

Weight loss done properly isn't about the first jab — it's about the months that follow. Here's how we work with you.

  1. 1

    First consultation

A 30-minute face-to-face assessment with an Independent Prescriber. We look at your weight history, health, lifestyle and goals — not just a number on a screen.

  2. 2

    Your plan, honestly

If a clinical treatment is suitable, you leave with the plan and prescription. If it's not, we say so — and point you to what would actually help.

  3. 3

    Monthly in-person reviews

We see you again. Track progress, adjust the plan, manage any side effects, support the lifestyle changes that make it stick. The bit online clinics can't do.

Your consultation

A proper clinical assessment, not a sales call.

The consultation is the foundation of the service, and it costs £20. It is a genuine, unhurried assessment with an Independent Prescriber who can examine you, answer your questions and make a safe clinical decision, which is something a website cannot do. Booking it commits you to nothing.

What happens in your appointment

  • A relaxed conversation about your weight, your goals and your medical history
  • Hands-on checks: weight, BMI and blood pressure, measured properly in person
  • A review of your current medicines and any health conditions
  • An honest decision on whether weight-loss medication is safe and right for you
  • If it is suitable, a clear treatment plan and a private prescription
  • If it is not, straightforward advice on what would help instead

Care that continues

If you start treatment, the service does not end at the prescription. You get in-person follow-up reviews to track progress, manage any side effects and adjust your plan, with practical support on diet, activity and habits along the way.

Every appointment takes place in our private consultation room on Church Street, never at the open counter.

Eligibility

Am I eligible for weight loss treatment?

Weight-loss medication is not right for everyone. As a general guide, you may be suitable if:

  • You are aged 18 or over
  • Your BMI is 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related health condition
  • You are ready to make changes to diet and activity alongside any medication
  • You do not have a medical condition or take a medicine that would make treatment unsafe

The final decision is always made by our pharmacist after a face-to-face assessment. If we do not think the service is appropriate for you, we will explain why and signpost to alternatives, including your GP.

Important: weight-loss medication works best alongside reduced-calorie eating and increased physical activity. We will talk through what that looks like for you.

Injection or tablets

Two ways to do this — chosen with your pharmacist.

Weight-loss medication comes two ways: an injection, or a once-daily tablet taken by mouth. Both are prescription-only, supplied only after a pharmacist assessment and only where it's clinically suitable.

You don't need to decide before you come in — at your consultation the pharmacist talks you through both and helps you choose the one that fits you best. It's the same booking either way.

Who will I see at the weight loss clinic?

Your consultation is with a GPhC-registered pharmacist who is also an Independent Prescriber. You see a named clinician who can assess you in person and, where appropriate, prescribe, and who you can come back to for follow-up.

Am I eligible for weight loss treatment?

The consultation is £20. If treatment is suitable, the cost of any medication and follow-up is explained clearly before you commit to anything. There are no hidden charges.

What weight loss medication might be prescribed?

Where it is clinically appropriate, the pharmacist can issue a private prescription for a licensed weight-loss medication. The specific treatment and dose depend on your clinical assessment and suitability, and are discussed fully at your consultation.

Licensed weight-loss medication is generally well tolerated, but side effects can happen. Because the service is in person you get follow-up reviews and can speak to the pharmacist during opening hours if anything concerns you.

Do I have to start treatment at the consultation?

No. The consultation is an honest clinical assessment. If the service is right for you, you can choose to go ahead. If it is not, the pharmacist will explain why and suggest alternatives, including NHS routes through your GP.
